Taking the leap
2012 is a Leap year and 29 February is traditionally the day on which women can ask men to marry them. The custom is said to date back to fifth century Ireland, when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about women having to wait for men to propose. Good old Bridg! Of course a woman can pop the question whenever she chooses these days but if you do need the tradition to help you get up the nerve then why not do it in style with a Take The Leap ring with Marry Me written on the inside? Made in silver by British jewellers Dower & Hall, it is intended as a token that can be redeemed against a gold or platinum ring later on, or simply worn as it is as an affordable and elegant option. £150 Wharton Goldsmith, 16 St Johns Street, Cambridge, CB2 1TW, 01223 303045
Mini wedding cakes
Why have just one wedding cake when you can have lots? A mountain of cupcakes is a more modern option that’s easier to serve but just as impressive. These ones from Cambourne company Hidden Gem Cupcakes are muffin sized and have been piped from the inside out to look like roses, but there are plenty of other designs and flavours including marshmallow or mocha, from £18.50 for 12 or call for a quote on larger orders, hiddengemcupcakes.com, 07732 426644

This bespoke morning suit is £673, The next available day to meet a stylist in the area is 4 February at the Great Northern Hotel, Peterborough, but go to asuitthatfits to make an appointment and find out more.
