Cambridgeshire steak and wine masterclass at The Varsity Hotel once a month
Enjoy an evening of steak and wine in Cambridge as the Varsity Hotel launches its first ever masterclass this month with a three course meal with wine. Head to the boutique hotel’s River Bar Steakhouse for an expert led master-class in different cuts of beef and how to pair wine with them.
‘All our meat is supplied by Andrews of Cambridge,’ says Angus Martin, head chef at the River Bar Steakhouse. ‘They source it from Norfolk and Suffolk, where the cows are fed on an excellent quality of grass, which makes the meat so flavoursome.
‘Because Andrews is a local suppliers the produce doesn’t travel far meaning that the cow and meat is less stressed and of course their animal welfare is second to none,’ said Angus.
Bancroft Wines will offer advice on which wine to choose to bring out the best in your steak. After learning how to pair steak and wine perfectly, you will then be served a three course meal, cooked by the head chef, designed especially to your preferences, with your chosen cut of steak and your choice of wine.
‘My favourite cut is rib-eye,’ says head chef Angus, ‘which is delicious chargrilled. It has a greater fat content than most cuts, which gives it so much flavour and chargrilling it really brings this out.’
The first masterclass will be 27 October and once a month after that, towards the end of the month. £40 per person, River Bar Steakhouse, the Varsity Hotel, Thompson’s Lane CB5 8AQ. To book visit riverbarsteakhouse.com, 01223 307030.
