Megson and Southern Tenant Folk Union
Originally from Teesside, husband and wife duo Stu and Debbie Hanna, aka Megson, now hail from just down the road in Melbourne. With four albums under their belts, three nominations in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and winners of the 2010 Spiral Earth Awards, they are a serious force in the folk world. Debbie’s classically trained vocals mix with Stu’s harmonies, driving rhythmic guitars and mandolas to create a unique, infectious sound.
Southern Tenant Folk Union are a seven piece, all acoustic, folk/bluegrass band who have just released their fourth album and are getting airplay from the likes of Bob Harris and Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 2 plus praise in the national press. With banjo, mandolin, fiddle and harmony vocals they perform heartfelt murder ballads or tear it up with ’Hootenanny sawdust-kickers’.
